Pause. Breathe. Pour. Refill.
This pause can take 30 seconds or five minutes. It can happen at the kitchen sink, in the car, at your desk, or beside a hospital bed. What matters most is the permission to stop and care for yourself, even briefly.
Pause
Slow down long enough to notice what you are feeling, needing, or carrying.
Breathe
Create space to calm your body, process emotions, and reconnect with yourself.
Pour
Become intentional about where your energy, time, and care are going.
Refill
Restore what has been depleted so you can continue with steadiness.
These are not steps to master all at once. They are rhythms to return to whenever life feels heavy, fast, uncertain, or draining.
Some moments require pause. Some require breath. Some ask you to pour differently. Many call for refill.
Some days you may need one step. Some days you may need all four. You need what the moment requires.
The Pause in Practice
One small moment, all four steps.
- Pause. Stop what you are doing and let yourself arrive where you are.
- Breathe. One slow breath in through the nose, released through the mouth.
- Pour. Quietly say to yourself, I am allowed to pause.
- Refill. Hand on your chest, shoulders down.
The Caregiver Pause walks through each step in full.
